The abscopal effect is a phenomenon in the treatment of metastatic cancer where localized treatment of a tumor causes not only a shrinking of the treated tumor, but also a shrinking of tumors outside the scope of the localized treatment.

The radiation has knocked me sideways. They gave me 3 times the usual dose.
Its a hell of a gamble. They're aiming for a thing called the abscopal effect (its on wikipedia - its like carpet bombing with radiation) and stopped when they thought they might kill me.
The gamble is: If it works I'm free of cancer. If it doesnt, I've lost nothing apart from being a bit fucked up for a few weeks.
As I said, I'm a lucky fucker. Every day is a success.

I've heard of Nivumolab. It's been successful at the Royal Marsden, I believe.
Bet you're enjoying the radiation. Or not....

Just bloody lucky. I'm surfing the first wave of immunological research, on a drug called Nivomulab mixed with radiation (a very experimental combo)
Same drug as this guy

It was only made available for trial on humans a year of so back
Before that I tried about 6 other treatments which had all the fun side effects

I almost died in 1999 and again in 2007. 2007 was the worst and I actually thought I was slipping away and as my eyes shut all I thought was
"I never said goodbye to my kids"
I woke up a couple of days later, but I always makes sure I kiss and hug my family whenever I leave them now, as you never know if you will see them again.

Fair enough but that piece of paper is wrong if it says anything about you understanding the double slit experiment.
I imagine we all have a cancer story or 9. And a dementia one. It lessens the impact none but hopefully increases the understanding and empathy some.

AfM and gph in the spirit of the route in which this thread has gone. I am not going to continue lay claim and counter claim around various "scientific" experiments. (in some ways it is now off the point and inconsequential)
I also feel I will become more aggrieved at your continued assertions that I am wrong and that I don't understand science (despite having a piece of paper that says otherwise)
I shall agree to disagree and smile knowingly. And allow this thread to pursue a more important path than arguing who is right or wrong.
And I can certainly agree that cancer is a horrible thing.
I have experienced it close up. My wife being diagnosed with secondary breast cancer 30 years ago when our kids where young. She fought it and won. And my son-in-law who fought a brain tumour for eight years and lost. It changes you just by being nearby.
How anyone could even think about wishing it on another I don't know.

I've never wished cancer on anyone.
Partly, that's selfish.
If I was diagnosed with it shortly after I'd wished it on someone else, I'd feel even shittier than I would after the diagnosis on its own. Not by much, admittedly, but a bit.

If you told me the terminal part I've forgotten. As a caregiver, one part of the remit is you forget about 90% of everything you're told. Hope that hasn't happened to your wife. She might get sued.

As we are talking about such stuff, it does make me chuckle that certain poster/posters on this thread who have posted fairly recently in reply to ray winstone are the same poster/posters that have wished cancer upon others on this very board.

Very true and why I try very hard not to engage in the personal stuff. Life really is very short as they say and while we may not agree on things you have to respect another person's views IMO. You can explain why without the personal jibes but many are very insecure and / or feel inadequate I guess (basic psychology) and that causes them to have a pop at someone (many with venom) who is expressing a different opinion.
Death? If you have a good, loving family and friends (its what makes life worth living) and IMO have had been lucky enough to get beyond at least 50 or 60, there is nowt to be afraid of.
West Ham winning the Prem or Champs League would be nice before I go though :-) My Grandad and Dad thought the same. Maybe 3rd generation will be luckier although I will not be banking on it :-)

Sorry to hear that news ray. I know we've got our differences but bloody hell! I wish I could wave a magic wand for you.
I would say that I do know someone that was diagnosed terminal 12 years ago and given 6 months to live. They are still doing fine because although it's not gone it stopped getting worse about 10 years ago...
